We are working for a leading Engineering and Manufacturing Client, who due to on-going success are now strengthening a number of their Engineering Teams. They are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to take a lead role in the interface between Design and Manufacturing.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Head of Design and working within a large team of Designers you will be required to take ownership of the design and manufacturing process for product changes and NPI.

You will also be required to assist and control Engineering Changes and new Design releases, Support production with the introduction of new products and launch issues and the development and improvement of Design to Production processes and procedures.

THE PERSON

We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer ideally with a background in Design Engineering. Equally you could be a strong Design Engineer with experience across manufacturing who wants to move their career into a Process and Systems environment.

Degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Design Engineering.
At least 3 years Manufacturing Engineering with strong Design Engineering experience. Design Engineering experience must include use of systems such as; Solid Works, PRO-E, CATIA or Unigraphics or similar.
Ideally 3+ years working within a manufacturing and Engineering environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interface with Customers, Designers and Manufacturing.
Results driven with a can-do attitude to ensure solutions.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.

The Role

The post holder will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of designated teams to ensure the timely manufacture, despatch and delivery of product within budgeted and planned cost, quality and time parameters.

Duties
• Plan and co-ordinate, in conjunction with the other Supervisors as required, the timely manufacture or despatch of product within your designated teams to achieve your team objectives and balanced scorecard Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as determined by management.
• To ensure effective, safe, accurate and timely stock management.
• Be responsible for ensuring that the quality of the product and service within your area is maintained at the highest possible standards for the customer.
• Ensure ISO 9001 (2008) controls and procedures are strictly adhered to.
• Meet weekly departmental/team quality targets.
• Carry out random quality inspections and ensure full checks are made on all remakes/ repairs/ special orders, etc.

• Carry out health & safety audits and inspections as required. Record & report findings and take, or follow-up on, relevant corrective action.

• Liaise with the maintenance team to ensure preventive, breakdown and specialist maintenance of all machinery and equipment within your area, ensuring that all maintenance schedules and records are updated accordingly.
• Effective forward planning to ensure departmental actions under the New Product Development Process (NPDP) are completed on time and within budget.
• Overall responsibility for all aspects of the effective supervision, training & development and health, safety & welfare of your team.
• Provide strong leadership, direction and mentoring, thereby fostering and sustaining co-operation and team spirit.
• Work closely with the Process Engineer to review and make practicable improvements to workflow, work processes and efficiencies within own area in line with company and departmental objectives, using balance scorecards. Use recognised business improvement techniques where practicable.

Essential Criteria
• GCSE Grade C passes to include English & Maths (or equivalent)
• A minimum of 3 years recent, relevant supervisory experience gained within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience of managing teams within tight quality and efficiency parameters.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages and in particular, Excel.

Desirable Criteria
• Qualification in Supervisory Management
• Relevant qualification in production or manufacturing
• Hold a forklift license
• Experience of Quality Systems (preferably ISO 9001 2008)

Primary Responsibility

 To provide an effective maintenance and repair service throughout the Company buildings and facilities to minimise breakdowns and down time and maximise operating efficiencies.

 Duties

  • Carry out an intensive programme of planned preventive maintenance for all Company buildings and utilities.
  • Carry out routine maintenance on all Company facilities. A/C, air compressors, fire alarm, emergency lighting, order picker batteries, lights, power, heating, plumbing, joinery etc.
  • Full, accurate and timely completion of all maintenance logs, schedules, etc. to comply with Health and Safety legislation and Company, insurance and ISO requirements, etc.
  • Contact external contractors as required and accompany/assist them while on site.
  • Ensure there are adequate supplies of spares on site for commonly used parts or those with a long lead time.
  • Create & continuously update technical files for plant & equipment from liaison with suppliers, operator or own knowledge, etc.
  • Carry out daily, weekly and monthly health and safety checks and inspections and takes timely corrective action. Report problems and/or unsafe practices to relevant Supervisor and Health and Safety, together with any recommendations for improvements.
  • Carry out all minor mechanical & plumbing, joinery repairs in relation to buildings and utilities, planned and executed in such a way so as to minimise risk or inconvenience to others.
  • Carry out modifications to work benches and new equipment as required.
  • Follow up on action points agreed on the Health & Safety Improvement Log and by the Health and Safety Committee within the agreed timescales.
  • Ensure quality procedures relating to maintenance are followed e.g. Calibration of measuring equipment.
  • Minor troubleshooting & maintenance of office equipment if required.
  • Review processes, procedures, systems, paperwork, etc. in own area, and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Communicate process changes to relevant parties in order that relevant follow up may be carried out, e.g. training.
  • Ensure full and timely reporting of all major breakdowns, significant problems, repair requirements, delays or machine down time to relevant personnel.
